here's the short version Mathijs says it's a language Sander says IT IS NOT YOU IDIOTS!! :)

Personally I believe it is, you only have to read it to see the huge differences between Dutch and West Flemish

haha, danke!
andre in south africa   Friday, April 29, 2005, 18:56 GMT
Plesier! :)
Tyrone   Friday, April 29, 2005, 18:57 GMT
Oh my word, every time i talked to a "waitron" (btw, ridiculous SA gender neutral word!), and said "thank you," they'd always respond with that ubiquitous "plesier!" It was always disconcerting. =)
andre in south africa   Friday, April 29, 2005, 18:58 GMT
LOL!
Tyrone   Friday, April 29, 2005, 18:59 GMT
lekker, buddy!

No, I think you should just move here, Tyrone, you belong with us ;)
Tyrone   Friday, April 29, 2005, 19:04 GMT
haha, I seriously want to....augh, i'm sitting chatting with another returnee at present.

I've found the term "waitron" really silly ever since I've heard of it... I myself just prefer referring to both male and female waiters as, well, "waiters", because the "female" versions of many words are more morphologically complex than the "male" versions of them.

Must admit was slightly surprised when I saw Tyrone use it in SA context. My understanding was that it was only used in very expensive, very pretentious restaurants. We just talk of waiters (male and female), but then, Tyrone spent most of his time in KZN, they're funny there ;)
