Dutch derived from Middle Low German(Low Franconian) dialects in Middle ages.People of Low Countries called their language "Nederduytsch".It means "Low German".
Merchants of Hamburg or Luebeck spoke in their Middle Low Saxon dialects with merchants from Flanders and Holland (they spoke in their Moddle Low Franconian dialects) without translators.
English is heavily influenced by French. If Anglo Saxons did not lost battle of Hastings,English was very similar to Low German and Dutch.
<<If Anglo Saxons did not lost battle of Hastings,English was very similar to Low German and Dutch. >>
Is this sentence correct? Shouldn't it be as follows:
If Anglo Saxons din not lost THE battle of Hastings, English WOULD BE very similar to Low German and Dutch.
