>>If a language sounds bad to you, I would like to know why?
<<

a. Vowels
b. Consonants
c. Bad experience dealing with someone who speaks the language
d. political enemy
e. dislike the group that speaks it
f. purely esthetic reasons/not beautiful to my ears
g. "If it isn't my language, it's plumb ugly."
h. "If it isn't Polish or English. I hate it."
i. Just dislike certain accents.

I have little exposure, so a,b are generally trivial.
c: even German would fall into this category.
d: Indonesian, hands down. Even worse than Japanese and Korean who are after all our culturally similar counterparts. In fact, I can't even say Japanese and Korean are in any way bad. The CJK are neighbors, not archenemies.
e: Indonesians don't win hands down, some of them do.
f: Thai, Vietnamese, Hindi, etc, win, and are usual targets of ridicule.
g, h: no idea.
i: I won't say dislike, but I don't understand. Irish and Scottish. To some extent, Australian and Cockney as well, and AAVE.

Danish, American English, Bulgarian, Romanian and Chinese in my view.
Even Spanish does not sound that pretty, particularly some American accent.

Xie, do you dislike the Irish and Scottish languages too?

Dutch. This language sounds like shit. In addition, their accents in English are shit.

Dunglish is hilarious IMO. Anyway, Dutch, like many languages, have different accents. Even in English (when I am abroad and I meet an occasional Dutchman or Fleming) I can often recognize from which province a Dutch or Flemish comes from.

BTW, the obsessive anglomania is not something every néerlandophone has. lol.

I don't bear any grudge against them. Perhaps they might even be very friendly toward Chinese people, willing to learn Chinese, etc.

American English, it's simply disgusting! Particularly the one of Southern States.
Rimbombante   Sun Oct 25, 2009 8:18 pm GMT
The best English is in Midwest.

"Particularly the one of Southern States."

There isn't ONE Southern accent-there are several.
