Very good example Jean. In both cases the Portuguese/Spanish
(pais & Escocia) are the same.

The French 'pays' is close to the Spanish/Portuguese equivalent 'pais'. The Italian 'Scozia' is close to the Spanish/Portuguese equivalent 'Escocia'.

I'm fluent in spanish, but I can never get the hang of French, no matter how close this languages are... As for Italian, I have no problem learning, speaking and writing the language, almost alike to Spanish... And Portugese, well speaking it is one thing and writing it is another, it sorta reminds me like French, so no, Its hard for me to learn this language, but not as hard as French. And Rumanian... ugh...!!! Im not even gonna go there...

I'm a Spanish speaker originally from Venezuela, and for me the languages that are the easiest to speak, read, write in order of ease are: Portuguese, Italian, French.

I am also a Spanish speaker originally from Venezuela(ZULIA), and I believe that once you are fluent or know Spanish or any other Romance Language, it is easy to learn another. Just because they all have their base in Latin... For example I can basically read anything thats in French, Italian and Portuguese... Sometimes it isn't just reading, you also have to sound out the language to understand.

My french friend said that learning spanish was as difficult as learning french since English borrowed a lot of words from French.
