French is not an international language!!!!!!

You are not right. FRENCH IS ALMOST NO SPOKEN. THAT´S THE PROBLEM.

For instance, it is spoken in France (61 million people), Belgium (4 million), Switzerland (1,5 million), Luxemburg (0,4 million), Monaco (0,03) million) and Quebec (7 million).

So, French is mother tongue of France, Monaco and minorities in Belgium, Switzerland and Canada. Total speakers: 74-76 million people.

A world language can´t be spoken by 76 million people. It is less spoken than Tamil or Korean.

The only difference with Tamil and Korean is that French is used in International Organizations by habit.

It is a Diplomatic language coming down in the world and there is an important trend to remove the role of French in UNO and other organizations. If France hadn´t a veto, it would be easy.

An easy comparison:

Spanish: 390 million speakers as mother tongue

English: 370 million speakers as mother tongue

French: 80 million speakers as mother tongue.

French has an important problem. France spend an incredible amount of money in French, France is always supervising the role of French in international organizations, France has an incredible marketing trying to persuade that French is important.... but it is no spoken.

They can´t compel to study this language.

PEOPLE THAT SPEAK THE LANGUAGE AS MOTHER TONGUE IS THE BASIS OF A LANGUAGE, NOT THE SECONDARY SPEAKERS.

If the language is official in some organizations is good (Postal Union or FAO) but the most important thing is that the language must be spoken everyday by a lot of people.

SORRY, FROGS, BUT YOUR LANGUAGE IS ALMOST NO SPOKEN.

<< PEOPLE THAT SPEAK THE LANGUAGE AS MOTHER TONGUE IS THE BASIS OF A LANGUAGE, NOT THE SECONDARY SPEAKERS >>

PEOPLE THAT SPEAK THE LANGUAGE AS SECONDARY LANGUAGE IS THE BASIS OF BEING AN INTERNNTIONAL LANGUAGE, NOT THE HUGE NUMBER OF NATIVE SPEAKERS.

Just look at Chinese which has twice as many native speakers than English, does that mean that Chinese is more important? You moron Sam.

Oh I see! Hindi has 425 million native speakers and 200 million secondary native speakers in Southeast Asia and the Middle East, Eastern Africa and even Hispanic America because of Bollywood and Hindi Films while Spanish has 325 million native speakers and just 20 million secondary speakers which make Spanish less important than Hindi.

You are not right. SPANISH IS ALMOST NO SPOKEN. THAT´S THE PROBLEM.

Castellano is minority in Spain because of Catalan. Galician, Basque, Asturian, Aragoneses, Leonese; Same thing in Latin America because in Peru, Bolivia, and Ecuador, majority speak Quechua/Aymara; In Paraguay, Guarani; Portunhol in Uruguay; Lunfardo in Argentina; Quiche in Guatemala; The rest speak forms of Spanish that are so removed from Castellano that are evolving into speehes similar to Papiamento, Chamorro, and Chavacano.

So, Spanish/Castellano is the mother tongue of Castilia only merely 15 million.

A world language can´t be spoken by 20 million people as a secondary speakers. It is has fewer secondary speakers than Chinese, Hindi, Bahase Indonesia, and even Swahili.

The only difference with Chinese, Hindi, Bahasa Indonesia, and Swahili is that Spanish is a European language by accident.

It is a Diplomatic language coming down in the world and there is an important trend to BLOCK the role of Spanish in UNO and other organizations. Even if Spain had a veto, it would be easy powerless.

You're really abnormal Sam. I never heard a report that there was a movement to ban French in UNO and other International organization. You're just envious because Spanish has no place and it;'s not used in this organizations.

An easy comparison:

French: 190 million speakers as secondary tongue

English: 150 million speakers as secondary tongue

Spanish: 20 million speakers as secondary tongue.

Spanish has an important problem. Spain cannot spend an incredible amount of money in Spanish, Hispanic nations are always insistingSpanish in international organizations, Hispanic countries have a poor marketing strategy to persuade that Spanish is important.... but everybody doesn't want to speak it because they find it like a PIECE OF SHIT.

Non-hispanics find it loathsome.

PEOPLE THAT SPEAK THE LANGUAGE AS SECONDARY SPEAKERS ARE THE BASIS OF AN INTERNATIONAL LANGUAGE, NOT THE NATIVE SPEAKERS.

FRENCH IS THE ONLY LANGUAGE OTHER THAN ENGLISH SPOKEN ON FIVE CONTINENTS. FRENCH AND ENGLISH ARE THE ONLY TWO GLOBAL LANGUAGES.

One example of the importance of French can be seen in a recent listing of international jobs (4/30/02) distributed by the U.S. State Department: 111 required or preferred French, 45 Spanish, 44 a UN language (Arabic, Chinese, English, French, Russian, and Spanish), 10 Arabic, 9 Russian, 3 German, 2 Chinese.

Source: http://www.webtraduction.com/French%20facts.htm

According to this sites Spanish(20) is behind English(37) and French(23) after weighing the 6 factors:
1. Number of primary speakers
2. Number of secondary speakers
3. Number and population of countries where used
4. Number of major fields using the language internationally
5. Economic power of countries of the languages
6. Socio-literary prestige

Spanish like Chinese got its strength in Factor Number 1. It relied only on the large number of speakers and countries where it is natively spoken.

But when it comes to secondary speakers, it has only 20 million speakers as opposed to French with 190,000,000 and English with 150,000,000.

In the outer core, Spanish is zero while English and French have 24 and 18 respectively.

In the fringe countries, English has 82, French 12, Russian 11, and Spanish just 1 (USA?).

This study is based on the articles of Dr. Bernard Comrie, George Weber and Ethnologue.

Sam is very furious about this information because it was made by English speakers and he even if keeps on Googling the WWW he couldn't find a similar web site for the Spanish language. Maybe he can find one, a CRAP made by Spanish speakers to make the gullibles like him believe that Spanish is a world language.

Mother tongue numbers are not important. It's what people are choosing as a second language. In this case, Spanish is the big loser.

And French is the official language in all of the following important world cities: Paris, Brussels (de facto capital of Europe), Strasbourg, Luxembourg, Gevena, Lausanne, Marseille, Lyon, Montreal, and Quebec City.

Spanish has nothing to compare to that. And French will remain the second strongest language in the UN, especially considering 36 countries choose it as their official language of correspondence. Perhaps if Spanish were good enough you guys could have a country get on the Security Council. But alas, all of your countries are failures and that will never happen!
