Sorry to have gotten all the language info wrong, andre. I forgot that dutch was dropped when SA became a republic in '61.

No problem Tyrone! Actually many people here don't know it because Dutch was in disuse here for long before that anyway :)

I totally miss South Africa. Makes me sad.

Tyrone

You should come and visit again ;) drink some amarula while having a braai ;)
Kirk   Wednesday, April 27, 2005, 06:24 GMT
Mmm...thanks to Tyrone I've been introduced to the joy of amarula (they sell it here in the US, altho at a somewhat hefty price...more so than its closest equivalent here, imported Baileys). Anyway, thanks andre in south africa for the link. It had a few IPA descriptions which were interesting. I wonder if there are more comprehensive SA English sites with a lot of detailed IPA descriptions? I'm beginning to think one doesn't exist.

Kirk

After doing rather extensive research on the net to find you a good link, I have to say I think you're right :( But I'm still looking :)
Kirk   Wednesday, April 27, 2005, 06:32 GMT
Thanks, as am I. I'll let you know if I ever find anything good, too.

BTW Tyrone

Today is Freedom Day in SA. Today, ten years ago, we had our first democratic election :) So drink a glass of Amarula on that for us!! :))

Andre,

I know I have to go back. The country just made me so happy. Although everyone just thinks I'm a Cape Coloured. I had better learn some rhythmic Afrikaans!
andre in south africa   Wednesday, April 27, 2005, 06:39 GMT
LOL!!
Tyrone   Wednesday, April 27, 2005, 06:48 GMT
Kirk, you know you like the Amarula.

Damn, why don't we have braais here.
andre in south africa   Wednesday, April 27, 2005, 06:54 GMT
Actually having one later today, Tyrone :) It's a public holiday here Won't have Amarula though rather some good SA wine
Kirk   Wednesday, April 27, 2005, 07:37 GMT
Haha...Tyrone and I actually just had some SA wine right now (he's my apartmentmate, if I hadn't already mentioned that). Good stuff.
